Most Amazon Brand Stories are live, approved, and doing nothing. They sit above the A+ Content, they look professional enough, and the shopper swipes past them on the way to the reviews. Getting the module published is not the same as getting it to sell. Amazon reports no conversion number for the Brand Story on its own, so most sellers never find out theirs is dead weight. They see it on the page, assume it is working, and move on to the next problem. This guide covers the part almost nobody teaches: the story structure that keeps a shopper on your detail page instead of sending them back to search. You get the four-card arc that carries a buying decision, before-and-after copy rewrites at the module level, the design rules that protect the work on mobile, and the metrics that tell you whether any of it moved. The short version A Brand Story that gets approved is not the same as one that performs. The question is never whether shoppers tap your cards. It is whether the detail page converts better with the story than without it. What an Amazon Brand Story actually is, and where it fits The Brand Story is the swipeable strip of cards labeled "From the brand" that sits above your A+ Content on brand-registered listings. It runs across every ASIN you attach it to, which makes it the one piece of creative on your detail page that works at the catalog level instead of the product level. It is not A+ Content and should not be written like it. A+ handles the product: features, specifications, comparisons, and the objections that stop someone from buying this particular item. The Brand Story handles the brand. Who you are, what you fix, and what else you sell. Your Storefront then curates the full catalog for anyone who wants to browse further. Treat the three as one sequence. The Brand Story earns attention and trust, A+ answers the product questions, and the Storefront gives an interested shopper somewhere to go. Written together, they read as one experience. Written by three different people in three different months, they read as three different companies. Why Most Amazon Brand Stories Don't Convert The most common failure is a brand talking about itself. Open ten Brand Stories in any category, and you will read ten versions of the same paragraph. Founded in 2018. Passionate about quality. Committed to our customers. None of it is false. None of it changes a buying decision either, because the shopper is not evaluating your company. They are working out whether your product solves their problem better than the four other tabs they have open. The second failure is treating the module as a design exercise. A seller hires a designer, gets back something that looks expensive, and never writes copy that does a job. Attractive and persuasive are different skills, and only one of them shows up in the conversion rate. Third, and the one that costs the most: measuring the wrong thing. Plenty of sellers judge the Brand Story by whether people tap the cards. Taps are not the goal. A shopper who reads your story, trusts you more, and buys the item they were already looking at has converted without touching anything. The job of this module is to hold someone on your detail page long enough to decide yes. The Story Framework Behind Amazon Brand Stories That Sell Every Brand Story that works follows the same shape, whether the seller who wrote it knows the shape or not. The shopper has a problem. Something in your story signals that you understand that problem better than the alternatives do. They believe you. They buy. Storytelling has a well-worn name for this shape, and it is worth borrowing, because Amazon-specific advice almost never gets past listing the module types. Make the customer the hero, not your brand The single most useful change you can make to a Brand Story is deciding who the main character is. Most sellers cast themselves. The brand is the hero, the story is its journey, and the shopper is an audience member watching from outside. Flip it. The shopper is the hero of their own situation. Your brand is the guide who has seen this problem before and knows the route through it. The difference shows up in the first line. "We started this company in 2019 after years in the outdoor industry" puts you in the subject position. "You have replaced the same cheap gear three winters running" puts them there, and it earns you the right to talk about yourself in the very next sentence. Your origin story does not disappear in this model. It moves. It stops being the opening act and becomes the evidence for why you can be trusted. Problem, proof, path: how the cards carry the arc The arc runs across the cards rather than inside any one of them, which is why fixing a Brand Story card by card rarely works. Card one establishes who you are and gives the shopper a reason to keep swiping. Card two names their problem in language they recognize. Card three proves you handle it, usually by answering the hesitation that stops people buying. Card four gives them somewhere to go next. Miss a beat and the story stalls. A Brand Story that opens on the problem and never proves anything reads as complaining. One that proves everything and never names a problem reads as bragging. The card-by-card structure that converts Four cards is the working number for most brands. Fewer, and the arc has no room. More and more mobile shoppers stop swiping before the cross-sell card, which is the one that pays. Card 1: hero and origin One line on who you are, one line on what you stand for. This card is doing a single job: buying the swipe. If the shopper does not move to card two, nothing else in the story matters. Use a lifestyle or brand-environment background rather than a product cutout. The product already appears in seven images above this module. Repeating it here wastes the one card where you can set a mood. Card 2: the problem you solve Name the frustration in the buyer’s words, not yours. Most Brand Stories go generic right at this card, because writing the problem well takes something specific about the category rather than something general about your company. The material is already sitting in your reviews and your Q&A. So is your competitor’s. Where the copy comes from Pull the last 100 reviews on your best seller and the last 100 on your closest competitor. Sort the three-star and four-star ones first, because that is where people explain what nearly stopped them buying. The phrases that repeat are your card two copy, already written and already proven to be how buyers in your category talk. Card 3: proof and objection handling Trust before the ask. Card three answers the one or two hesitations that reliably kill the sale in your category: durability, sizing, ingredient sourcing, and whether it fits the thing they already own. Specifics carry this card. A number, a material, a process detail, a stated policy. Adjectives do not. "Premium construction" is a claim anyone can make and every competitor already has. A tested load rating is evidence. Card 4: the ASIN showcase The most underused card on Amazon. It surfaces complementary or top-selling products from your own catalog at the exact point where a shopper has just decided they trust you. Most sellers either skip it or drop in four random ASINs. Sequence it instead. If someone is looking at the entry product, show the natural second purchase. If they are looking at the premium item, show the consumable that goes with it. This is the card that moves average order value, and it is the reason a Brand Story pays for itself across a catalog rather than a single listing. Weak copy versus strong copy Most Brand Story advice stops at "be authentic," which is not an instruction. Below is what the change looks like at the sentence level. These lines are written as illustrations of the pattern, not lifted from client work. You have read enough supplement labels to know most of them hide the dose. Ours is on the front. The weak line fits any brand in the category. The rewrite names something the buyer already does and takes a position a competitor cannot copy without changing their packaging. We understand that your pet is part of the family. A chew toy that lasts a week is not a toy. It is a subscription. Sentiment every pet brand already claims, replaced with the frustration in the buyer’s own words. It also sets up the durability proof on the next card. Our products are made with premium materials and rigorous quality standards. The handle is the part that fails first. We test ours at four times the load the pan can hold. Swaps an adjective for a mechanism. The reader learns something about the product category, which is what makes a brand feel like it knows more than the buyer does. Explore our full range of products. It gives the shopper a reason to tap, which separates a decorative fourth card from one that lifts order value. The pattern across all four is that the weak version describes the brand and the strong version describes the buyer’s situation. Run your existing copy through that single test before you rewrite anything else. Design and mobile rules that protect the conversion The majority of Amazon traffic is mobile, and the Brand Story renders very differently there. Your background image gets cropped hard on a phone, and the first modules cover a large part of it. Keep focal points and any critical visual detail clear of the bottom-left area and away from the edges. Design the card on a phone-sized frame first, then check it on desktop, rather than the other way around. Copy length is the other mobile constraint. One to two lines per card. A paragraph that reads fine on a monitor becomes a wall on a 6-inch screen, and shoppers do not zoom in to read brand copy. They swipe. Do not bake text into your card images Text rendered inside the image file rather than typed into the module text field is a common rejection trigger, and it does not scale or reflow on mobile. It also cannot be read by Amazon’s systems. Keep every word of copy in the actual text fields, even when your designer prefers the typography. One more reason to keep a copy in the text fields: Rufus reads it. Amazon’s shopping assistant pulls from brand content when answering shopper questions, and it retrieves specific nouns far better than atmosphere. "Dishwasher-safe stainless steel stockpot for canning" is retrievable. " Thoughtfully made for the modern kitchen" is not. Write at least one card using the words a shopper would actually type. Category patterns worth copying Three storytelling patterns repeat across strong Brand Stories. Which one fits depends less on your taste than on what your buyer needs reassurance about. Founder origin works where the buyer is paying for judgment. Premium goods, handcrafted items, and natural supplements all ask the shopper to trust a person’s standards, so a named founder with a reason for existing does real work. It falls flat in commodity categories where nobody cares who made it. Problem-solution works where the buyer arrives annoyed. Niche tools, cleaning products, and health items are usually bought to fix something specific. Naming the annoyance in card two and resolving it in card three is the fastest route to trust in these categories. Process transparency works where the buyer is suspicious. Organic skincare, baby products, and premium food all live under a cloud of ingredient and sourcing doubt. Showing where things come from and how they are made answers the objection before it forms. Pick one and commit. Brand Stories that try all three across four cards end up saying nothing with conviction. How to publish it in Seller Central Once the copy and images are ready, the build itself takes under an hour. Log in to Seller Central and open the Advertising tab. Select A+ Content Manager, then start creating new content. Choose Brand Story as the content type. Upload your background images at the correct dimensions for each module. Write your copy directly into the module text fields, not into the images. Attach every ASIN you want the story to appear on, and set the products for the showcase card. Submit for review and wait for approval before checking it live. Attach it across the catalog rather than to your hero product alone. The story is written at brand level, so restricting it to one ASIN gives away most of the benefit. How to Tell If Your Amazon Brand Story Is Working Amazon does not give you a Brand Story conversion metric, so you have to read it indirectly. Four signals are worth watching, and all four need about 30 days before they mean anything. Detail page conversion is the primary one. Compare the same ASINs across a clean 30-day window before and after, controlling for price changes and ad spend. If conversion moved and nothing else did, the story is doing work. Cross-ASIN clicks tell you whether card four is earning its place. If nobody moves from the showcase card to another product, either the sequencing is wrong, or the products are unrelated. Branded search volume is the slowest signal and the most telling. A story that lands makes people remember the name, which shows up as more shoppers searching your brand directly instead of the category term. Repeat purchase rate closes the loop. Brand Stories are one of the few Amazon assets that work on the second purchase rather than the first because the shopper who already bought is the one most likely to read the rest of your catalog. Do not read the first week A Brand Story reaches a small share of your traffic at first, and daily conversion noise will swamp the signal. Sellers who judge it on day three usually conclude it did nothing and never test again. Set the review date 30 days out and leave it alone until then.
