Amazon Competitor Analysis

Desverto’s Amazon competitor analysis service maps your real competitor set, then benchmarks their listings against yours across three layers, search result, detail page, and offer, to find exactly where they win the click and the sale. Most providers hand you a keyword export and leave you to act on it. We hand you the gap and rebuild the image, copy, and A+ Content that closes it. What you get back is a ranked list of fixes, each tied to the sales it can recover.

Best for: Amazon brand owners who can see a competitor outselling them and cannot work out why. Brands whose ads lose the click to the product listed right next to them, whose reverse-ASIN exports never turn into action, or who are about to enter a crowded subcategory and want the competitor map before they commit the budget. Built for brand-registered sellers on Seller Central, FBA or FBM, running roughly $10,000 to $500,000+ per month.

What our Amazon competitor analysis service does for your brand

Amazon competitor analysis is the work of finding out why rival products win the shoppers you are competing for, then using that to take the advantage back. Our part is to map who you are really up against, measure where their listings beat yours, and prove which fixes will recover the most sales.

The work runs in three moves. First we map your true competitor set from the search terms you share and the offers you compete against, not from category browsing. Then we benchmark those competitors against your priority ASINs across three layers: what shoppers see in search results, what happens on the detail page, and whether your offer can win at all. Then we hand back a ranked gap report and rebuild the assets that close the highest-value gaps.

That last move is where most providers stop and we keep going. A reverse-ASIN export tells you which keywords a competitor ranks for. It does not tell you why their main image wins the click or why their A+ Content answers a question yours leaves open. We read the creative, not just the data, and we rebuild what the audit finds. If the gap turns out to be price, stock, or the search terms your ads are buying, we tell you before we design anything. Your budget goes to the change most likely to move sales.

Why watching a competitor’s keywords is not enough

A competitor can share every keyword you target and still convert at twice your rate. Keywords earn the visit. The listing decides whether that visit becomes an order. Most competitor analysis measures the first half and ignores the second, which is why a seller can copy a rival’s entire keyword list and watch nothing change. Here is where competitor analysis usually goes wrong:

Tracking rank, not conversion share.

Knowing a competitor ranks for a term says nothing about whether they convert it better than you. Impression share without click and purchase share is half the story.

Copying the keywords, ignoring the creative.

Two listings can target the identical term and convert at double the rate. The gap is almost always the main image and the first screen, not the backend search terms.

The wrong competitor set.

Indirect products get benchmarked as direct rivals, and the analysis ends up chasing shoppers who were never choosing between you and them.

A reverse-ASIN export with no action attached.

A list of 300 keywords is data, not a decision. Nothing in it tells you which five to fix first.

Their A+ answers the objection yours leaves open.

The competitor’s detail page resolves the sizing or compatibility question that sends your shoppers back to search results to compare.

An image stack that wins the comparison.

Seven angles of your product lose to six images that show size, fit, and what is in the box. Shoppers leave to answer the question your page did not.

Reviews mined for complaints, never fed into creative.

The objection that keeps recurring in a competitor’s one-star reviews is your next image angle and your next bullet, if anyone connects the two.

Featured Offer lost and blamed on the listing.

If a rival holds the Featured Offer on price, stock, or delivery speed, no amount of copywriting competes until that is understood.

A one-time snapshot that goes stale.

Competitors change images, prices, and titles constantly. A report from last quarter describes a listing that no longer exists.

Most of these surface in the first pass of a real audit. Several need no new creative at all, only a correction to the competitor set, the ad targeting, or the way the comparison is measured.

Warning: A competitor map built on the wrong rivals sends your whole budget at the wrong fixes. Getting the competitor set right is the first job, not a formality.

How we map a competitor: the three-layer competitor benchmark

We do not start with a redesign. We trace each priority ASIN against its real rivals through the three points where shoppers decide, using Business Reports, Brand Analytics Search Query Performance, and your Featured Offer percentage, before we touch a single image or bullet.

Layer 1, the search-result gap

Impressions to clicks. Search Query Performance shows, for each search term, how many shoppers saw your product, clicked it, added it to cart, and bought it, next to the totals for that query and the share your competitors took. If your impression share is healthy but your click share is low, a rival is winning the decision before the page opens. That decision is made on the main image thumbnail, the first 75 characters of the title, price, star rating, and delivery date.

Layer 2, the detail-page and creative gap

Clicks to purchases. This is the layer every other provider skips and the one we build the service around. If shoppers click your listing as often as a competitor’s but buy less, the page is not answering the questions that decide the category. We benchmark image order, video, bullets, A+ Content, Brand Story, and variation structure against the rival’s page, question by question, and we check how all of it reads on a phone, where most Amazon browsing happens.

Layer 3, the offer and trust gap

Whether the sale can happen at all. Featured Offer position, price against competing offers, delivery speed, star rating, review count and velocity, and the objections living in a competitor’s reviews and return reasons all sit here. Amazon’s own guidance says an offer can lose Featured Offer eligibility on stock, price, or delivery. When the gap sits in this layer, creative work will not close it, and we say so plainly.
Most sellers only look at Layer 2, because it is the layer they can see. Checking all three first is how the budget lands on the gap that actually moves sales. Warning: When a rival holds the Featured Offer on price or stock, no image or bullet takes that sale back until the offer problem is fixed first. Diagnose the layer before you pay for a redesign.

What we analyze: the Desverto competitor analysis service

Every engagement covers all three layers, and the audit decides where the work goes first. For most brands, a handful of hero ASINs get a full creative rebuild while the rest of the catalog gets targeted fixes. We roll changes out with our Master Layout System so a product line stays consistent, and every new version is checked against Amazon’s listing and A+ Content rules before it is submitted.

Competitor identification and mapping

We separate your true direct rivals from indirect ones, built from the search terms you share and the offers you compete against, not from a category page. You get your real competitor list with ASINs, so the rest of the analysis measures the right products.

Search-result and keyword-gap analysis

Reverse-ASIN overlap, impression and click share on shared terms, and the terms a competitor converts that you do not yet rank for. The output is not a raw keyword dump. It is the short list of terms where closing the gap recovers the most sessions.

Creative and conversion-gap analysis

The core of the service. We benchmark your main image, image stack, video, A+ Content, and Brand Story against the competitor's, scored by the buyer questions each one answers and how each reads on a phone screen. This is the layer that decides the sale and the layer nobody else reads.

Offer, pricing, and Featured Offer position

Where a rival wins on price, delivery, or Featured Offer eligibility, read against your margin so a recommendation never costs more than it recovers. A lower price that wins the click and loses the profit is not a fix.

Review and sentiment mining

We read a competitor's one to three star reviews and return reasons for the objection that keeps recurring, then turn it into your image angle and your bullet. Their complaints are your fastest creative wins.

The prioritized gap report and rebuild

The deliverable that closes the loop. A ranked list of gaps by recoverable sales, and the rebuilt assets, images, copy, and A+ Content, that close the ones in scope. Analysis you cannot act on is a slide. We give you the slide and the fix.

What you get

A competitor plan built from your data. Not a template image pack. Not a generic listing checklist. A ranked list of fixes for your specific ASINs against the rivals actually beating them, ordered by how many sales each one is likely to recover. Every engagement includes:
  • Competitor map: your true five to ten rivals, their ASINs, and the search terms you share.
  • Three-layer gap report: search-result, detail-page, and offer layers scored for each priority ASIN against its top competitors.
  • Creative and copy gap findings with the rebuild: main image, image stack, video storyboard, title and Item Highlights, bullets, and A+ Content built from the gap findings, for the ASINs in scope.
  • Review and sentiment summary: the recurring competitor objections, mapped to the listing changes that answer them.
  • Prioritized action list: every gap ranked by the sales it is likely to recover.
  • Refresh cadence: a recommended re-benchmark schedule, because competitor listings and Amazon’s own layout change too often for a one-time report to hold.
Tip: Start with one hero ASIN and its top three rivals. A tight first benchmark shows you the method and the biggest gap before you commit the whole catalog.

On pricing, what Amazon competitor analysis should cost

Most providers in this space hide pricing behind a discovery call, and a few promise a fixed percentage lift before they have seen a single ASIN. Neither helps you judge whether an offer is fair.

Competitor analysis is usually sold three ways. A one-time audit, priced per ASIN or product family, that maps the gaps and ranks them. A fixed-scope project, where the audit is followed by the creative and copy rebuild for an agreed set of ASINs. And a monthly retainer, which adds ongoing competitor monitoring, re-benchmarking, and quarterly reviews as rivals change their listings. Price moves with the number of ASINs, how many variations each has, how much new photography or design the rebuild needs, and how many marketplaces you sell in.

Each model fits a different stage. If you are not sure where the gap sits, start with the audit. If you already know a rival is beating your page, a project is faster. Either way, we judge results on profit as well as sales. Taking click share by matching a competitor’s discount is not a win, and we will not report it as one. We scope every engagement after the audit and tell you which model fits before you sign anything.

Where this is going in 2026, AI shopping and competitor visibility

Two Amazon changes in 2026 reshape what competitor analysis has to cover. On May 13, 2026, Amazon retired the standalone Rufus chatbot and replaced it with Alexa for Shopping, now the default AI assistant for signed-in US customers, with no Prime membership or Echo device required. Shoppers increasingly ask it plain-language questions instead of typing keyword strings, which means competitor visibility is no longer only organic rank and sponsored placement. It now includes whether the assistant surfaces your product or a rival’s when a shopper asks which one to buy. Amazon has not published how Alexa for Shopping chooses products, so we claim no ranking formula for it. What holds is this: a listing that answers sizing, compatibility, and use-case clearly works for the shopper reading it and for an AI summarizing it, and a competitor whose listing answers those questions better is the one an assistant is more likely to favor. The creative layer that wins the human click is the same layer that feeds the AI answer. The second change is the title cap. Since July 27, 2026, titles in non-media categories are limited to 75 characters, with Item Highlights as a separate 125-character searchable field shown alongside the title. Competitor benchmarking now includes who uses those first 75 characters better, because that is where both keyword relevance and the reason to click now live. Key fact: Amazon replaced Rufus with Alexa for Shopping on May 13, 2026. Competitor visibility now includes whether the assistant recommends your product or a rival’s, which makes a clear, question-answering listing a competitive asset, not just a conversion one.

FAQ

Amazon competitor analysis is the work of measuring why rival products win the shoppers you compete for, then acting on it. It covers what shoppers see in search results, the detail page itself, and the offer, meaning price, delivery, stock, and reviews. The goal is more sales from shoppers you already compete for, before you spend more on ads.
We build your competitor set from the search terms you share and the offers you compete against in Search Query Performance and the Featured Offer data, not from browsing a category page. That separates direct rivals, the products a shopper actually chooses between, from indirect ones that look similar but never cost you a sale.
Those tools are good at the data, and we use tool data too. The difference is what happens next. A tool hands you a reverse-ASIN export and leaves you to read it. We read it against your listing, benchmark the creative the tool cannot see, and rebuild what the gap report finds. The tool tells you the keyword. We tell you why their image wins it.

A keyword gap is a search term a competitor ranks or converts for that you do not. We find it through reverse-ASIN overlap, then rank the gaps by how many sessions closing each one recovers, so you act on the few that matter instead of a list of hundreds.

No, and this is the difference that defines the service. The creative and conversion layer is the core of what we do: the main image, the image stack, A+ Content, Brand Story, and the buyer questions each one answers. Keywords and price get you compared. Creative decides who wins the sale.

Once as a baseline, then on a cadence, because rivals change images, prices, and titles constantly. We recommend a full re-benchmark every quarter, and after any major change to your catalog, a competitor’s listings, or Amazon policy. A one-time snapshot goes stale fast.
Not for every layer. Price, offer, and main-image benchmarking work without it. You do need Brand Registry for Brand Analytics Search Query Performance, A+ Content, Brand Story, and Manage Your Experiments, which is where most of the diagnosis and testing happens. If you are not enrolled yet, we tell you what to set up first.
Ask whether they read creative or only data, whether they map your true competitor set or hand you a generic export, whether the report comes with a prioritized action plan, and whether they can rebuild what they find or only report it. A good competitor analysis agency tells you when the gap is your offer or your traffic rather than the listing, and shows you the fixes ranked by the sales each one recovers.
